eagle’s flight – The Road Ahead – 2/19/15

I’m in a period of underemployment currently, working as a contract writer doing performance reviews of network switches. These 3rd party reviews are used by marketing departments to let people know how “my switch is better than your switch”.  And … Continue reading

eagle’s flight – where next? – 9/1/14

I’m not retired yet. I’m not done working for at least part of a living. But I am done with learning the next new open source programming language. I am done with competing with 20 & 30 somethings over things they learned in school, that I have picked up along the way. I love writing poems, music, meditations, etc … but doubt that writing can support me at the level I desire. This doubt and changes in my life’s rhythm somehow make it harder to choose what I love doing, when I “should be making money”. Continue reading

eagle’s flight – on doing it wrong – 7/24/14

I’ve worked for years in software testing, finding problems in other people’s work, and then telling them about it in such a way that they will fix the issue. Along the way I’ve been told many different ways that I just don’t understand, that the problem doesn’t exist. And sometimes they are right. But other times the cliff I see ahead really does exist even if I can’t convince them of the problem. So I walk ahead and post a sign or create a bridge or a stair down and then I wait for them to come running up to discover … a cliff with a sign showing the way down. They call to their fellows to follow them as they’ve found a way past this new obstacle. Continue reading

eagle’s flight – new visibility – 6/5/14

It’s been 12 years since I published “The Walk of the Eagle”, and due to my most recent job changes I’ve had cause to go back through those promises to check in and see what God’s been doing with me, and which promises have been kept or not. I’m not done with this exercise, but those 12 promises have turned into 81 reflections on experiences and events that have moved each promise from a future hope to a present reality. Continue reading

Eagle’s Flight – still working – 4/21/14

I seem to be getting older. And for me as a working adult, that means I’m not as quick at learning new computer languages as I was. I’m not as eager to jump in and do a quick competitive programming experience needed to join Facebook. I failed the Google interview test, because I didn’t know terms now taught in CS courses. So it becomes increasingly up to me to figure out how my experience can be used in the job marketplace. Fortunately, I have made friends through the years who respect things I’ve done and look out for me. Fortunately I continue to draw closer to God who has promised to provide and opens up new perspectives and opportunities for me to walk in. Continue reading

Eagle’s Flight – testing software – new job – 3/30/14

So, newly out of work, Janet and I mentioned it to a few folks that we ran into. One person heard and mentioned a person I should call. So I called Princeton NJ, and had a brief conversation and started working a week or so later. wow. Continue reading
