eagle’s flight – what I should say and what I should speak – 9/21/15

what I should say and what I should speak I was given this scripture this AM. I didn’t want to get up and deal with it, so I put it off. But it wouldn’t leave me alone, so after sleeping … Continue reading

The Road Ahead – Introduction – 7/14/15

I’m well along in the process of writing a book. I’ll include a few excerpts from it in my email/blog. Here’s the Introduction, and an annotated table of contents.

I speak about God here. If that offends you, use “Love” instead. Its one of God’s primary names. Continue reading

eagle’s flight – The Road Ahead – 2/19/15

I’m in a period of underemployment currently, working as a contract writer doing performance reviews of network switches. These 3rd party reviews are used by marketing departments to let people know how “my switch is better than your switch”.  And … Continue reading

eagle’s flight – Sabbath walking – 2/4/15

At the urging of my cousin, I read Walter Brueggemann’s book: “Sabbath as Resistance”.

[ Brueggemann, Walter (2014-01-31). “Sabbath as Resistance”, Westminster John Knox Press. Kindle Edition. ]

And it struck a strong chord with me as I have been given to pray that generosity replace greed in and around me. The book looks at the 4th of the 10 Commandments in the Old Testament scriptures, and sees the Sabbath as demonstrating the restful nature of God and the provisioning for peaceable community. This is in contrast to the competitive, “more, more, more” and “never enough” environment we live in today.

And I also noted that greed is considered an idol, a false god in the scriptures. Continue reading

eagle’s flight – Drawn in – 1/15/15

I’m in the process of reading through the book “Mansions of the Heart” by John Ashcroft. It’s a modern rendition of Teresa of Avila’s “Interior Castle” and St. John of the Cross’ “Dark Night of the Soul”. A small group of 3 of us have been having dinner together on Thursdays and talking about it, seeing where it resonates, and how we respond to Ashcroft’s comments. It’s been quite enjoyable to engage in such conversations each week. Here’s my take on the seven mansions which are stages in the spiritual journey, sometimes re-visited, each one never completely explored.

Warning – I’m using a bit more Christian specific language than I usually do. Replace “Christ” with “Love” or “The Word” if it’s easier for you. And on the “Holy 3” i.e. the “Trinity” … you’re on your own.

Let me know what strikes you. Continue reading

eagle’s flight – gracious generosity – 1/1/15

I’m being prompted to muse, meditate and pray around replacing greed with generosity. So, I’ve done a quick survey of the Christian scriptures on generosity and this is a first resultant poem. Interesting the blessings tied to generosity, some of which would appear foolish to current mindsets, but perhaps can be an antidote to the greed which leaves so many behind.

endings and beginnings – a wedding – 5/9/13

The wedding of my daughter, went off well, the right event at the right time. We forgot the requisite number of important things to keep it real, but the people interactions were the most important. And now I’ve mostly recovered and am back working at my usual list of occupations (and preoccupations J ) but the new completeness of these two joined is companion to a new emptiness as she now calls home a place removed from us. Continue reading

Rest – house of the lord

I am discovering “rest” is deeper than I’d imagined.
Such a simple thing, everyone knows how to rest.
But sometimes I don’t. Yet as I wait. As I walk more deeply. As I turn again and again into Love’s Graces to me, I discover how much I don’t know and live into.
And how much these gifts mean to me. Continue reading

Many Were Healed – 3/11/12

About 22 years ago now, I went to a conference at the Vineyard in Anaheim, on worship and healing. I went 3 years in a row, hearing a call and following through on it only by God’s grace through many small steps. At the third one, I went asking for a gift, a supernatural spiritual gift. And if possible, I wanted either the gift of healing or prophecy, so that’s what I asked for. During one worship time, while everyone was singing, the Holy Spirit fell on me as I was worshipping, and I found myself laughing and crying at the same time. When the music ended, I sat down out of breath and amazed, wondering at what had just happened. Continue reading
