eagle’s flight – Drawn in – 1/15/15

I’m in the process of reading through the book “Mansions of the Heart” by John Ashcroft. It’s a modern rendition of Teresa of Avila’s “Interior Castle” and St. John of the Cross’ “Dark Night of the Soul”. A small group of 3 of us have been having dinner together on Thursdays and talking about it, seeing where it resonates, and how we respond to Ashcroft’s comments. It’s been quite enjoyable to engage in such conversations each week. Here’s my take on the seven mansions which are stages in the spiritual journey, sometimes re-visited, each one never completely explored.

Warning – I’m using a bit more Christian specific language than I usually do. Replace “Christ” with “Love” or “The Word” if it’s easier for you. And on the “Holy 3” i.e. the “Trinity” … you’re on your own.

Let me know what strikes you. Continue reading

I am surprised to find a resonance with the psalmist of 119, who knows what’s good for her, and has a deep desire to walk it out, but can’t be relied on to stay with it, to keep the commands. She* keeps asking for help, and so do I. Continue reading

Christ Brings Division – 3/14/12

Again, a number of years ago, I looked at the news of the day and what I knew of history, and didn’t see much hope from such things. And bit by bit, a kind of desperation grew in me that by myself I didn’t have answers for the way we seem to treat one another. This threw me increasingly at God’s feet. My desperation became a force driving me deeper into God. And now I know that I have no strength to combat the many ways we harm each other that I am so sensitive to. So I pray. So I ask for a way forward. And bit by bit, God is raising up an audience who listens, who responds, who is seeking Love, the Christ, the Enabling Spirit as well. We begin to speak our callings to one another and teach each other of our giftings. And the bride of Christ gathers. Continue reading
