endings and beginnings – and in between – 3/22/13

Between one beginning and its ending, there comes a time when you’ve gotten to know how to do the things needed to make it work. In the best times, it’s comfortable and you delight in getting better and better at what you are doing for yourself and others. And at other times, its all you can do to keep going.

when the novelty
has worn thin
you still enjoy
what you are doing
but the annoyances
the small failures
the tired wearinesses
creep in
and it becomes clear
that you’ve taken on too much
(or too little)
and all there is for you to do
is to
keep going
and try to remember
to rest
the seasons
and cycles
that all things turn
and why you do
these things

relax into the rhythm
natural to what you do
as the work
becomes increasingly natural
find its rhythm
the music
that makes
it live
and sing
your joy
out beyond you
to all those
you are working

About Clark W Johnson

I am a poet, interested in using poetry to explore my interactions with the spiritual. I find poetry captures tension, paradox and flow well enough so I can hold experiences at arms length and reflect on them from multiple vantage points. As I walk deeper with my God, I'm finding such a record invaluable for myself, and I find that pieces and parts touch others as well. I love and long for more points of contact along those lines.
