faith when you’re sick – 5/25/12

I caught a cold, or perhaps just more intense allergies, but they have taken me out of my usual routine. I find my brain working at half power, and I’m tired, and need to nap a lot (ok, more than usual). Compared to many, I’m not even very sick, but its disrupted the second half of my week of rowing, choir, meetings, work. And the deadlines that are always hanging over my head, aren’t getting done. In my wonderings on faith, I wonder if I have many faithful friends, who have seen me over some years, in all my moods, action and inaction, and yet remain friends.

late spark

I discovered in college that the feedback loop for my faith, was 2-5 years. A friend, Mike, came to me and told me how much something I had said to him meant to him. It had stuck with him and changed a part of his life. I was grateful, but it took me a while in reconstructing where and when I must have said this to him, to realize that it had been 2-3 years prior. As I’ve paid attention to such things, I’ve seen that when I do get to glimpse something I’ve said or done that has had such an impact, its taken 2-5 years for that feedback to get back to me.
